Motor skills relate to the connection between the muscles and the nerves that supply them. Improving motor skills improves the relationships between the muscles and the nerves with a resulting improvement in the function. The sorts of functions it relates to are balance, co-ordination, reaction time, speed, power, agility and spatial awareness. Training these skills improves the neuromuscular connections. Sometimes these skills are very specific to particular sports, but we can all benefit from improvement in all of them in everyday life. They are best practiced early in a session before you become tired and may involve catching exercises, dance steps, boxing movements, movements that involve changes in direction. If you want to work on a particular skill for a particular sport or activity, this should be practiced in short periods, paying attention to good technique until the movement becomes subconscious.
