Lesson 2 - Cardiovascular Fitness

Lesson 2 - Cardiovascular Fitness

Cardiovascular (CV) fitness relates to the ability of the heart and circulatory system to delivery oxygen to the working muscles and removal of any waste products efficiently. Improvements with exercise are obviously seen in improved heart function, but there are also changes to lung function and improved efficiency at the muscles themselves. Cardiovascular exercises such as walking, jogging, swimming, cycling will make you feel sweaty and puts your heart rate and breathing rate up. As your CV fitness improves you will be able to endure these exercises for longer periods of time and at increasing intensities. Measuring your heart rate can indicate how hard you are working, working at a moderate intensity, where you are still able to talk, but feel sweaty, can be the best range for burning fat. Recommended guidelines for CV health are to do 30 mins of moderately intense exercise 5-7 times per week, for CV fitness this is 20-60 mins of moderate to very intense exercise 3-5 times per week.
