Lesson 3 - Muscular Endurance

Lesson 3 - Muscular Endurance

Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle or muscle group to repeatedly move against a resistance for an extended period of time at a moderate intensity. Sounds complicated, but it just means that a muscle can keep working, but you don't get that horrible feeling of burning pain as the muscles are using oxygen to work and all the by products are being removed efficiently. The resistance can be body weight, everyday lifting/moving activities or light weights/resistance bands. Some of our muscles work in this way all the time, e.g. calf muscles keep us stood up, they will eventually get tired, but if they are exercised/used they will be able to tolerate us standing up longer. Recommended guidelines for muscular endurance exercises are 1-2 sets of 12-15 repetitions at moderate intensity 2-3 times per week, trying for a whole body approach.
